Notes

Personality
  • Percival is generally the most friendly of the knights. He tends to approach everyone with a pleasant cheer.

  • He's extremely naive thanks to his upbringing and even now can still be startled or shocked by the excesses people go to.

  • As another result of that, he's also very inquisitive and occasionally impulsive.
  • Some people mistake him for being simpler than he is due to his naivete, but he's not stupid, just innocent of a lot of things men take for granted.

  • Percival is immensely devout. He may not always agree with the Church, but even so, he does his best to abide by the majority of its' requirements, attends church regularly and makes amends for his mistakes. He prays regularly for guidance and strength.

  • He feels guilt regarding his feelings and actions regarding Lamorak, which are things he will never confess even to the priests. He believes his feelings to be true (and they are), but he can't reconcile them with what the priests say on that subject.

  • He's very gender blind when it comes to clothing. He doesn't understand why people are so adverse to crossdressing, though he understands that they are and thus that it has to be avoided to avoid anger.

  • If he lived in a less cold place, he'd love to wear clothing like Morgan does. He finds him beautiful.

  • Ever since he first saw knights as a teenager, he's admired them and wanted to be like them. Sometimes this means he goes a little far with trying to emulate the others - the first time he drank with them, he tried to drink as much as the more experienced men and wound up blackout unconscious, face down with his head in someone else's lap.

  • He's been known to get overly excited and push himself too far.

  • Percival is a very kind man. If he sees someone in danger, or miserable, he will step in to try to find out the problem and fix it. He's perfectly willing to make deals that benefit the other person more than him and causes him to lose out.

Appearance
  • Percival's hair goes all the way down to his ass. He usually keeps it tied at the neck, but on occasions where it would get in the way, he'll braid it or tuck it into his armor.

Lifestyle
  • He likes sewing. Having grown up with two women who were insistent on keeping him away from male pursuits, he has a good deal of experience with 'women's work' and he doesn't mind it.

  • He's actually quite a strong man and trains regularly to try to be the best he can.

History
  • After losing a husband and two sons to war, Percival's mother decided to keep him from society and took him and his sister to live in a remote castle in the woods. She intended to raise him innocent of the ways of men, in a manner devoid of violence or cruelty. The only weapon he was allowed to touch was a small javelin, which he became good at using for catching game, primarily birds. He knew nothing of the world beyond the forest save that there was one and that he should not go there.

  • When he was in his teens, he witnessed a knight fleeing his pursuit, and his mother claimed at the time that it was an angel. However, soon after that, he saw many other knights who were following him but were taking time to rest, and went out to meet the "angels" fearlessly. Sir Ywain took a liking to him and explained about what they were in exchange for Percival's information on where the other knight went. Filled with a drive to become a knight, he returned home to declare his intention and after all attempts to dissuade him failed, his mother reluctantly allowed it.

  • When he first went out into the world, he was often made fun of, but he innocently took the laughter as simple merriment rather than mocking, having never been mocked before. He made many mistakes, not knowing how the world worked, but the sheer joy of being out in the real world kept him from being daunted by them. Soon enough he became at least aware of when one was being callous or cruel to him, and became less overwhelmed by his feelings, but he never lost his love for the world.

  • He earned King Arthur's attention after he saw a strange knight harassing Queen Guinevere and her retinue and defended her honor. Guinevere told Arthur about the youth who had taken up the knight's challenge for her sake, and asked him to check on the fight out of worry, for the knight in question was a known troublemaker that they had not yet been able to get rid of. Arthur went to find them along with Lancelot and Lamorak, only to find him the victor. Hearing that Percival's greatest wish was to become a knight, Arthur agreed.

Sex and Relationships
  • Due to the necessity of not being caught out, he has a habit of covering his mouth or sucking on Lamorak's fingers to silence himself during sex.
